WELCOME TO SARATOGA RACEWAY. an UltraSoft Action BBS Game (c) 1992-94
Saratoga Raceway is not a complicated game to play, with a lot of rules.
Skill is a factor in developing a familiarity with the Horses, Trainers
and the performance characteristics, in order to make accurate judgements
in your Betting. Get to know the horses, and how they perform in various
circumstances, by checking their Ratings often and observing the races.
You'll find certain horses out perform others on a relatively consistent
basis, but often you'll see variations in their performance based on
factors such as fatigue from many races run, or sluggishness, if not yet
warmed up by a race or two. Generally, it's not wise to choose a horse
that you have not seen run yet that day. Most likely their muscles will
be tight, and slow them down. Some horses have a tendency to start quicker,
while others come on stronger in the Home Stretch. This, in addition to
having "on days" and "off days" much like horses at any other Major Raceway.
The Betting Window is where all bets are placed. If you pick a Winner,
the pay off is 4 to 1. A choice that Places (2nd) pays off at 3 to 1. If
you pick a Show (3rd) your payoff is 2 to 1. Sound can be Toggled on or
off from the Main Menu. Horse Ratings are also available from the Menu.
Unfortunately, Security is usually a problem at any RaceTrack. There often
are characters there of unsavory intent, so keep a close eye on your money!
